Cartooning For Kids
Sundays 11:30am-12:30pm

The class will focus on helping kids translate their sketches and doodles into fun, engaging, and original cartoons. We will examine different techniques for characterization, facial expressions, and common stylistic approaches, while always encouraging the students to develop their own style. We’ll also work on easy-to-learn drawing techniques for students who aren’t as confident in their drawing skills. I will stress to the students the importance of working on rough sketches and making revisions before creating a final, finished drawing. In addition to technique, we’ll also focus on adding humor to the drawings, developing characters, writing basic gags or scripts, whatever the students are comfortable with. We will experiment a little bit with adding color using watercolor, colored pencils, and markers, but the majority of our work will be with pencil, paper, and pen. I will encourage each student to keep a sketch book.
